A huge thank-you to all who helped make our 22nd annual Deck’s Day for Dubbers so successful. It was a great day all around, the sun was shining, we had 102 golfers and we finally had some new winners! Congratulations go out to Justin Roy, Andy & Rick Southgate and Nick Carleton who finished with a 64. Greg Buscanera, Dan Rees, John Buote & Mike Elmer from Coca Cola were the winners of the 2nd place “Kiss your Sister” award established last year in memory of Larry Woodman who always said ‘coming in second is like kissing your sister’.
Because of the continuing generosity of so many of our vendors and volunteer workers, we were able to have burgers and hot dogs on the course, and we ended the day with a great clambake meal including creamy clam chowder, fried clams, steamed clams & mussles, fresh lobsters, BBQ ribs, all the yummy sides. If that wasn’t enough, we even had delicious ice cream sundaes for dessert!
We had more raffle prizes donated this year than ever before! This year to date between our fall dance, our 3rd annual appeal, our benefactors, patrons, golfers& long time supporters we’ve raised over $60,000 enabling us to once again award two $10,000 scholarships. Our 2010 recipients are Justine Kane from Essex, who will be attending U Mass Amherst, and Greg Neff from Manchester, who will be attending Western Michigan University in the fall, our best wishes to you both.
Since 2006 we have also been awarding 2-$1,250 scholarships through the Essex Lions Club, 2-$1,250 scholarships through the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, 2-$1,000 scholarships through the Mass Restaurant Association and we sponsor 25 top honor scholars through the North Shore Chamber of Commerce.
