Shrimp Cocktail Recipe by Woodman’s of Essex
Shrimp Cocktail Ingredients
cooking water
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup Red Hot hot sauce
1 pound fresh or frozen shrimp, size 16 to 20, peeled and deveined
How to Make Shrimp Cocktail
Make an ice bath and have ready to cool the shrimp. In a large pot add cooking water, the salt, pepper, and the hot sauce. Bring water to a boil and add the shrimp. Cook fresh shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes and 6 to 8 minutes for frozen shrimp. To check the shrimp remove one and butterfly it—when it is no longer translucent in the middle, it’s done. Make sure the shrimp is firm and not limp. Drain the water from the shrimp, and immediately put into an ice bath until the shrimp are cold. Serve with cocktail sauce and lemon.
Recipe Note: It’s important to have an ice bath ready and to cool the shrimp when they are done cooking. Serves 4.
